[warhawks]

asa:
- slightly above average height for a japanese woman (taller than her female classmates), nerfed by her bad posture. also slightly underweight, not noticeable with clothes on. mostly flat but has a huge dumptruck for some reason... fujimoto...........
- refuses to eat fish because it "looks too much like a dead animal" and grosses her out. also dislikes sushi so fish seems to be a complete No for her regardless of appearance.
- actually seems to eat very poorly in general... instant noodles and and plain bread tier. either she doesn't know how to cook or is too depressed to bother. likely it's a mix of both on top of not having much money.
- "i'd rather kill a human than kill a cat".
- on crambon, her former cat's name.
- triggers: typhoons/hurricanes, animal death (especially cats and chickens), rejection, abusive caretakers.
- both her parents died in devil attacks several years ago--her mother while saving asa from the typhoon devil, but her father's death is a complete mystery. went to an orphanage after her mother died so he was already out of the picture by then, presumably killed in an earlier attack since he wasn't in her trauma flashback.
- lives alone in an apartment. not mentioned how she can afford it; a common theory is that there's some sort of government allowance or housing for kids whose parents are killed by devils.
- this would also explain why she's insanely money dumb on larger scales. thinks 1 million yen can buy an aquarium, or that a college fund can buy a whole bunch of military-grade turrets.
- enjoys gardening, has several plants in her apartment.
- writes poetry..................... it's not good. was set to have a poem collection go on sale at one point after she became famous for devil hunting.
- incredibly klutzy. always eats shit at the worst possible moment.
- instinctively tries to talk to yoru whenever they're separated. having yoru around very quickly becomes normal for her, even if she claims to want nothing more than to get her body back.
- speaking of, she still talks out loud to yoru even though yoru can read her thoughts.............. makes her look like a total freak to anyone around to hear it. girl you do yourself NO favours.

yoru:
- came up with the name 'yoru' herself after possessing asa, was only ever known as the war devil before. possibly chosen to match asa's name (asa = morning, yoru = night).
- is somewhat faceblind like her sisters. doesn't seem to be true prosopagnosia, rather a matter of them not caring enough about individuals. having asa around helps compensate for this.
- was originally the youngest of the four horsemen. death (confirmed oldest) > famine > war > control (reincarnated). technically we don't know if war or control (original) was the youngest but like. come on.
- implied she was bullied in hell, probably by her sisters. particularly wary of famine.
- end goal is revenge on chainsaw man, but also genuinely wants her erased comrades back.
- sees gun and tank devils as her children. "symbols of my horrors". feels real guilt over having to use them as weapons, even if it doesn't stop her from eventually doing so.
- absolutely terrified of being forgotten. seems to be the most susceptible to this of the sisters since she's entirely at the mercy of humanity fearing war as a concept, vs natural occurrences like death or starvation.
- eventually confirmed: her scars ARE visible when she's in control of asa's body (at least to some people). not just a visual cue for the reader. weird that it's only mentioned twice but whatever. maybe it's only people with devil contracts.
- the freaky circle devil eyes might be just an artistic choice though. iirc makima's were never brought up either? famine's definitely aren't... that or everyone in this manga is stupid (very real possibility). semi-believable that nobody would question makima having weird eyes, but less that nobody would question two highschoolers.
- genuinely frustrated when she fails to predict asa's actions due to not understanding humans. wants so bad to be a master manipulator but is waaaaay too immature and petty.

both:
- power development: transforms things into weapons by touching them + saying the name > doesn't need to touch, only say the name > no need to name OR touch, just focus. has to 'own' the thing in question, but the definition of ownership is deliberately played with.
- asa can take back partial control from yoru sometimes now. punching herself, slamming her body into a wall, basically forcing a switch. seems limited to one arm?
- definitely some bleedover going on between them as time goes on. yoru becoming attracted to denji, asa becoming bolder, on top of feeling each other's emotions. they also switch more frequently, and it's mostly seamless. mostly.
- LOTS of bird motifs. yoru's weakened devil form is an owl or potoo, 三鷹/mitaka = three hawk, the first two chapters of part two are called "bird and war" and "two birds", asa accidentally killing the chicken devil, asa's nightmares about running down an alleyway stepping on chicken corpses, three birds in the panel after she agrees to work with yoru and lots of other ominous moments.

misc:
- part 2 is set in 1998 (start) and 1999 (current). not 1:1 with real world (many past events have been altered in-universe), but very close overall.
- unauthorized devil contracts are illegal, only qualified devil hunters are allowed to make them. asa assumes she would be killed if public safety found out about yoru, with good reason.
- ... except for the fact they totally knew about her all along and left her in the "wild" in the hopes she'd kill chainsaw man for them. once that stops being a realistic possibility they send yoshida to capture her. surprise motherfucker!
- presumably can drink blood to heal herself like other fiends/hybrids? she's never shown doing it so either she can't or chooses not to. i'm going with the latter until/unless canon specifically contradicts me.
- this is the reason she couldn't reattach/regrow her arm either.
